Description
The Faxon EXOS-553 is a thread-on compensator with a body profile cut to match the Gen 5 Glock slide, so it looks like part of the gun instead of a can hanging off the muzzle. It threads onto any 1/2×28 barrel, and Faxon retains it with thread locker on the barrel threads plus two 6-32 set screws that index the comp and keep it from rotating. There is no crush washer or shim stack to time; you snug it flush to the slide and lock the screws. A threaded barrel is required.
Faxon machines the EXOS-553 from 6061 aluminum with a black anodized finish, and it weighs about one ounce. The port layout is a single expansion chamber with three ports angled at 45 degrees, which Faxon says vectors gas up and forward. Faxon reports a 28 percent reduction in peak muzzle rise in its own testing with 115 grain 9mm, measured on a Gen 3 G19 with the EXOS-513; Faxon states the 553 uses the same porting with a Gen 5 body. It adds 1.125 inches ahead of the slide on a Faxon barrel. The box includes the comp, thread locker, two 6-32 set screws, and a 1/16 inch hex wrench. On recoil springs, Faxon says a spring change is usually not needed with standard-pressure or +P ammo, but light target loads may need a lighter spring.
Fitment: Faxon lists the Gen 5 Glock 17, 19, and 34 in 9mm, and states it was engineered and tested on those models. It will not fit Gen 3 or Gen 4 slides (Faxon points to the EXOS-513 and EXOS-543) or the 43X and 48 (EXOS-533). Faxon says fit on other Gen 5 pattern pistols like the G45 and G47 has not been verified. The comp sits flush on Faxon Gen 5 barrels; on other barrels, Faxon recommends 0.600 inch or less of muzzle protrusion past the slide for a flush look. MOS slides make no difference. Aftermarket slides with a different nose profile may leave a visible step.

Who should skip it
If your barrel is not threaded, you need one first; pair this with the threaded barrels we carry for the Glock 17 and 19 Gen 5, or look at the Strike Industries Mass Driver, which mounts on the guide rod and skips the threaded barrel entirely. Gen 3 and Gen 4 owners need the EXOS-513 or EXOS-543. Expect to buy or trim a holster, since the comp adds 1.125 inches; Faxon says open-bottom holsters usually work and closed-toe holsters need cutting. USPSA Production and Carry Optics and IDPA SSP and CO do not allow compensators; IDPA CCP and ESP rules vary, so check the rulebook.
