Description

The True Precision Cobra is the “cut” version of True Precision’s micro compensator line. True Precision builds it for carry and duty pistols where the shooter wants some muzzle control without a large comp hanging off the front of the slide. It threads onto a 1/2×28 barrel and installs hand tight against a tension lock O-ring, so there are no shims, set screws, or thread locker to deal with. A threaded barrel is required; it does not ship with one.

True Precision machines the Cobra from USA-sourced 416R stainless steel and finishes this version in black nitride. Compared to the S-Type and Y-Type micro comps in the same family, True Precision describes the Cobra as having “deeper, more pronounced cut ports and a slightly extended profile.” The manufacturer lists the body at 0.78 inch long and 0.73 inch in diameter; some retailers list it closer to one inch long, so expect roughly one inch or less added at the muzzle. Thread pitch is 1/2×28. The box contains the compensator and a tension lock O-ring. True Precision does not publish recoil spring or ammunition guidance for this part.

Fitment: True Precision lists the Cobra for “most 9mm and .380 pistols with 1/2×28 threads.” It is not shaped to a specific slide, so it works on Glock, SIG, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, CZ, and other 9mm pistols as long as the barrel is threaded 1/2×28 and the threads protrude far enough to seat the comp against the O-ring. It will not fit barrels threaded M13.5×1 LH (many CZ, HK, and Walther factory threaded barrels), and it is not a suppressor mount. Any comp changes holster fit, so plan on an open-bottom holster.

Matching threaded barrels: this comp fits any 1/2×28 9mm barrel; see the pistol threaded barrels we carry.

Who it’s for

Carry and range shooters who want a small comp on a threaded barrel without changing holsters much, and USPSA Limited Optics or Open shooters who want a light muzzle device. PCSL 2-Gun and Tactical Games allow compensators.

Who should skip it

If your barrel is threaded M13.5×1 LH, Griffin Armament makes its Micro Carry Comp in that thread. If you want more muzzle control than a micro comp gives and you shoot a Glock, a slide-matched comp such as the Strike Industries Mass Driver or Faxon EXOS will do more, at the cost of length and holster fit. USPSA Production and Carry Optics do not allow compensators or threaded barrels with a device attached, and IDPA SSP and CO do not allow comps; IDPA CCP and ESP rules vary, so check the current rulebook.
