Description
The JP Ultra LMOS Bolt Carrier (JPBC-1) is a small-frame AR-15 bolt carrier machined from 7075 T6 aluminum and anodized, built to cut reciprocating mass for competition rifles. JP lists the weight at 3.76 oz with the gas key installed.
A lighter carrier reduces the mass moving back and forth in the receiver during each cycle. The result is less disturbance of the sight picture between shots and a rifle that tracks flatter in recoil, which is the reason low mass carriers follow a compensator as the next upgrade on a match rifle. Dropping this much mass also changes how the rifle needs to be gassed, so JP says this carrier should be run with an adjustable gas system to limit stress on the carrier assembly.
JP’s stated limits: this is a competition and race gun part and is not recommended for duty or defense use where absolute reliability is required. Aluminum carriers should be treated as consumable rather than lifetime parts, with service life depending on use and maintenance. JP does not recommend it with gas systems shorter than mid-length; carbine-length and shorter systems can cause gas erosion at the tail of the carrier and reduced service life. Not for .308 AR-type rifles.
The carrier ships with JP’s titanium firing pin (JPFR-223T), which JP strongly encourages with this carrier for safety, and a JP Enhanced Gas Ring (JPEGR-223). It does not include a bolt. It accepts a standard small-frame bolt, cam pin, and retainer pin; the JP EnhancedBolt Assembly Completion Group (JPBC-EB223) is the matching JP option.
