Every JP-5 ships with a Silent Captured Spring in the buffer tube. This is that part as a replacement, the Gen 2 SCS built for the JP-5’s roller-delayed action. A shooter buys one because the original is worn, because a second upper or lower needs its own, or to keep a spare in the match bag.
The SCS replaces the buffer and spring with one captured unit, which is where the name comes from: no spring twang in the tube behind the ear. JP builds the JP-5 version around the same weights as its AR-15 SCS, so the tuning parts already sold for those systems carry over. Alternate-rate springs (JP’s JPSCS-PACK15) let a shooter fine-tune cycling along with the lock piece.
One thing to know: JP states this unit is for the JP-5 only. It is not the AR-15 SCS and will not go into an AR-15 or an H&K MP5.
The trade-off is that this is a factory-spec replacement, not an upgrade. A JP-5 that already cycles well gains nothing from a second one except a spare.
