Description
The Timney Alpha Competition Series trigger for Gen 5 Glocks is the Gen 5 specific version of Timney’s drop-in match trigger. Gen 5 pistols use a different trigger bar, trigger mechanism housing, return spring, firing pin and firing pin safety than Gen 3 and Gen 4, so Timney builds this kit around those parts. Timney states it “can be installed easily with no gunsmith needed”: the factory trigger, bar and sear come out of the housing and Timney’s shoe, machined trigger bar and sear assembly go in. Timney states it “uses all stock Glock parts and springs,” and Timney’s blog confirms the factory connector, trigger housing, striker and striker spring stay in the gun. This is the Red version: black aluminum shoe with a red anodized safety blade and color-matched sear.
Timney lists a three pound factory pull weight and says the trigger ran 10,000 rounds in testing with no cleaning or oiling and no malfunctions. Timney’s blog describes a firm wall with no creep, reduced over-travel and a shorter reset. The shoe is machined aluminum with a flat face and a wider safety blade than the factory polymer trigger; the trigger bar and sear are Teflon nickel (NP3) plated. Timney’s blog lists the box contents as the trigger shoe, trigger bar, sear assembly, C washer, screw and installation tool, plus two return springs (a lighter natural spring and a heavier red one). Timney’s blog states all three factory safeties (trigger safety, firing pin safety and drop safety) remain fully functional. A pre-travel adjustment screw is present; Timney’s blog warns that removing too much pre-travel can partially disengage the safeties and recommends leaving it alone.
Fitment: Gen 5 Glock pistols in 9mm and .40 S&W. Timney’s blog names the 9mm G17, G19, G26, G34 and G45. The G19X and G47 share Gen 5 fire control parts but Timney does not name them; ask before you buy for one of those. It will not fit Gen 3 or Gen 4 pistols (different housing and trigger bar; use the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Alpha), will not fit Gen 6 pistols (Timney sells a separate Gen 6 Alpha), will not fit the large frame Gen 5 G20 or G21 (Alpha Gen 5 Large Frame), and will not fit the slimline G43X or G48. Timney states it is only compatible with stock Glock pistols. MOS slides do not affect fitment.

Who it’s for
USPSA Carry Optics and Limited Optics shooters on a Gen 5 G17, G19, G34 or G45, Open shooters on a Gen 5 frame, and PCSL or Tactical Games competitors who want the Alpha internals with a red blade to match other red parts on the gun.
Who should skip it
If you want an all-black trigger, the Blackout Gen 5 Alpha on this site is the same part in black. Gen 3 and Gen 4 owners need the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Alpha, Gen 6 owners need the Gen 6 Alpha, and G20 or G21 Gen 5 owners need the Gen 5 Large Frame version. Timney labels this a competition trigger for stock pistols; a three pound striker-fired trigger is not a duty or carry trigger, and many departments and some instructors say no. The Glock Performance Trigger is the factory option for Gen 5 9mm guns if you want a heavier pull. USPSA Production and Carry Optics allow aftermarket triggers, bars, connectors and springs with no minimum pull weight, as long as the trigger safety still works and the pistol is on the approved list; Limited, Limited Optics and Open have no trigger rules. IDPA SSP allows internal trigger work but no visible external changes, so an aftermarket shoe is out; IDPA ESP, CCP and CO allow replacement triggers but not add-on trigger shoes. Read the current rulebook before a major.
