The APACHE was tested the way a competition pistol should be—hard, dirty, and on the clock. Over the course of several months, two APACHE pistols were pushed past the 1,000-round mark each, across multiple shooting disciplines and drills.
Testing included:
A wide variety of ammunition was used, ranging from 115-grain to 147-grain, including Super Vel, Eley, Black Dot, Blazer Brass, Federal, Black Sheep, and Freedom Munitions. The goal was to evaluate reliability, recoil impulse, and consistency across common competition loads.
One of the APACHE pistols experienced an early failure-to-feed issue within the first 50 rounds. While no shooter wants to encounter a malfunction—especially at this price point—it is worth noting that tightly-toleranced double-stack 1911s chambered in 9mm can be sensitive if feed geometry is even slightly off.

Both APACHE pistols ran reliably across all tested ammunition. While 124-grain loads performed best—and align with Watchtower Defense’s recommendations—the pistols handled everything from 115-grain to 147-grain without issue.
Notably, reliability remained strong despite minimal cleaning throughout testing. This is particularly impressive given the tight tolerances typical of double-stack 1911 platforms, which often demand frequent maintenance to remain reliable.
The APACHE ships with two Check-Mate magazines:
The magazines themselves are high quality and performed well. However, for a competition-focused pistol, two magazines feels light. A third magazine—ideally another 20-rounder—would better match the APACHE’s race-gun positioning.
Additionally, the flush-fit 17-round magazine occasionally resisted dropping free during reload drills. While not a deal-breaker, it is a consideration for shooters prioritizing reload efficiency.
