Description

The Timney Alpha Competition Series trigger for Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks is a drop-in trigger group built for match use. Timney describes it as a trigger that keeps the reliability of the Glock system while giving the shooter a lighter, cleaner break, and states it “can be installed easily with no gunsmith needed.” You pull the factory trigger, trigger bar and sear out of the trigger mechanism housing and install Timney’s shoe, machined trigger bar and sear assembly in their place. Timney states the kit “uses all stock Glock parts and springs,” and Timney’s blog confirms the factory connector, trigger housing, striker and striker spring stay in the gun. This version is the Blackout finish: black anodized shoe and black safety blade.

Timney lists a three pound factory pull weight. Timney’s blog describes a firm wall with no creep, reduced over-travel, and a shorter reset than the factory trigger. The shoe is machined aluminum with a flat face and a wider trigger safety blade than the polymer factory part. The trigger bar and sear are plated in Teflon nickel (NP3) to cut friction. Timney’s blog lists the box contents as the trigger shoe, trigger bar, sear assembly, C washer, screw and installation tool, plus two trigger return springs (a lighter natural spring and a heavier red one for shooters who want a stronger reset). Timney’s blog states all three factory safeties (trigger safety, firing pin safety and drop safety) remain fully functional. There is a pre-travel adjustment screw; Timney’s blog warns that taking out too much pre-travel can partially disengage the safeties and recommends leaving it alone.

Fitment: Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock pistols in 9mm and .40 S&W (G17, G17L, G19, G22, G23, G24, G34, G35). Timney’s blog also lists .357 SIG Gen 3 and Gen 4 guns. It will not fit Gen 5 or Gen 6 pistols, which use a different trigger bar, housing and return spring (Timney sells separate Gen 5 and Gen 6 Alphas). It will not fit the large frame 10mm and .45 guns (G20, G21, G29, G30, G40, G41), which take the Alpha Large Frame, and it will not fit the slimline G42, G43, G43X or G48. Timney states it is only compatible with stock Glock pistols. A MOS slide does not change fitment.

Also in the Pro Shop: Apex Action Enhancement Kit for Gen 3-4, Tyrant CNC I.T.T.S. for Gen 3-4, and threaded barrels for Glock.

Who it’s for

USPSA Carry Optics, Limited, Limited Optics and Open shooters running a Gen 3 or Gen 4 G17, G19, G34 or G35, and PCSL or Tactical Games competitors who want a lighter, flatter trigger without changing the Glock fire control layout.

Who should skip it

If your gun is a Gen 5 or Gen 6, you need the Gen 5 or Gen 6 Alpha on this site; if it is a G20, G21, G40 or G41, you need the Alpha Large Frame. Timney labels this a competition trigger for stock pistols, and a three pound striker-fired trigger is not a duty or carry trigger; many departments and some instructors say no. If you want a factory-backed upgrade that keeps a heavier pull, the Glock Performance Trigger is the other option. USPSA Production and Carry Optics allow aftermarket triggers, bars, connectors and springs with no minimum pull weight, as long as the trigger safety still works and the pistol is on the approved list; Limited, Limited Optics and Open have no trigger rules. IDPA SSP allows internal trigger work but no visible external changes, so an aftermarket shoe is out; IDPA ESP, CCP and CO allow replacement triggers but not add-on trigger shoes. Read the current rulebook before a major.
