Action Gunner Take

I run a Raptor in every AR I own — competition guns, home defense setups, all of them. Once you get used to the ergonomics, a standard mil-spec charging handle feels like you’re trying to grab a credit card off a flat table.

The latches on both sides are extended and textured with deep vertical serrations, so you get a solid grip whether you’re palm blading or hooking it with a finger or thumb. The right latch is slightly longer than the left to clear the forward assist, which is a smart detail that most people never notice until they try a competitor’s handle that doesn’t account for it. Under match conditions — gloved hands, wet hands, working fast while a timer is running — the Raptor just works without you having to think about it.

It’s machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a Mil-Spec Type III hard coat anodize, and Radian has tested it past one million cycles. At 1.3 oz it adds almost nothing over a standard GI handle.

Two things to consider. First, at roughly $105 MSRP, it’s a meaningful step up from mil-spec. The Raptor LT offers the same design at a lower price point with polymer-overmolded latches if budget is tight. Second, this is the AR-15/M16 model only — it will not fit AR-10, SR-25, SIG 516, or S&W M&P 15-22 platforms.

The Radian Raptor is an ambidextrous charging handle designed as a direct replacement for the standard mil-spec AR-15/M16 charging handle. It’s a drop-in install — no modifications, no special tools.

The core improvement is the dual extended latches. Both sides feature oversized levers with deep vertical serrations that allow you to charge the weapon quickly from either the strong side or support side. You can palm blade it, hook it with a finger, or pull with a thumb — all three methods work cleanly because of the latch geometry and surface texture. The right-side latch is slightly longer than the left to account for the forward assist on standard upper receivers.

The handle body and latches are precision machined from 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum and finished with Mil-Spec Type III hard coat anodizing. Radian rates the design at over one million cycles without failure. The machined edges are smooth enough that they won’t chew up your hands during repeated manipulation, but the latch faces have enough texture to grab in wet, cold, or gloved conditions.

The Raptor weighs 1.3 oz — only 0.3 oz more than a standard GI charging handle. It’s approximately 0.517″ wider overall than mil-spec.

This model (R0001) is the AR-15/M16 version in black. It is not compatible with AR-10/SR-25 platforms, the S&W M&P 15-22, or SIG 516 — each of those requires a platform-specific charging handle. Radian also makes the Raptor SD (suppressor-optimized with ported shaft), the Raptor LT (lighter weight with polymer-overmolded latches at a lower price), and the Raptor SL (slim-line with shorter latches).
