A firing pin is a wear item, and a worn or damaged one is a reliability problem waiting to happen. This is JP's replacement firing pin for small-frame AR-15 bolt carrier groups in .223/5.56. JP makes it from hardened tool steel with a nitride coating, which the company states increases wear life over a standard pin.
This is a straightforward replacement, not a performance upgrade a shooter will feel on the timer. The value is durability and reliability: a fresh, hard-coated pin in a high-round-count rifle, or a quality spare for a backup bolt. It drops in during normal bolt carrier group reassembly.
