On a PCC stage, the side charger is how a JP-5 shooter clears a stoppage or makes ready without breaking the firing grip. JP’s Competition side-charge handle is the larger of the two handles JP offers for the PSC-5 dual-charge upper, built for a fast, positive grab from the support hand.
JP lists it as a complete replacement assembly, so it swaps for the handle already on a PSC-5 upper rather than adding parts to it. The other option from JP is the Low Profile handle, which sits tighter to the receiver and costs less; the Competition handle trades that slimmer footprint for more to grab.
One thing to know: this fits the PSC-5 (JP-5 dual-charge) upper only. A standard top-charge JP-5 upper has no side-charge port and cannot use it.
The trade-off is the price for a charging handle. For a shooter who runs a PSC-5 and clears malfunctions under a timer, the bigger handle is the point; for a shooter happy with the factory handle, there is nothing broken here to fix.
