Federal .223 69gr Gold Medal Match

Who this is for
3-Gun and multigun shooters taking long-range rifle targets, plus Service Rifle and precision .223 competitors, running 1:9-or-faster twist barrels who want consistent factory match ammo without handloading.
Action Gunner Take
For a factory .223 load that performs close to handloads, Federal Gold Medal Match is a common pick. It is built around the 69-grain Sierra MatchKing, a proven match bullet, and Federal holds the Gold Medal line to tight tolerances so the round meters consistently from shot to shot.
For competition, the 69-grain weight sits in the sweet spot for most .223 match barrels. It resists wind better than 55-grain bulk ammo at distance and stabilizes in the 1:8 and 1:7 twists that most match rifles run. Federal rates muzzle velocity at 2,950 fps.
One thing to know: a 69-grain bullet needs a 1:9 twist or faster to stabilize. In an older 1:12 barrel it will not reach its potential, so a faster twist or a lighter bullet is the better match. The other trade-off is cost. Match ammo runs well above bulk FMJ, so it is worth saving for the stages and zeroes that matter rather than burning it on warm-ups.

Federal Gold Medal Match .223 Remington loads a 69-grain Sierra MatchKing boat-tail hollow point, one of the most widely used match bullets in precision shooting. It is factory ammunition built for competitors and precision shooters who want consistent, repeatable accuracy without loading their own.
Federal's Gold Medal line uses a primer the company designs for sensitivity and consistent ignition, which is part of why the round meters reliably from shot to shot. The Sierra MatchKing's boat-tail design holds velocity and resists wind drift better than lighter bulk bullets at distance, making it a common choice for long-range rifle stages and zero work.
Federal lists the specifications at 2,950 fps muzzle velocity, 1,333 ft-lb muzzle energy, and a ballistic coefficient of 0.301. The 69-grain weight requires a 1:9 twist or faster to stabilize, and it performs best in the 1:8 and 1:7 twist barrels common on match-built AR-15s and bolt guns. It will not reach its accuracy potential in older 1:12 barrels. Sold as a 20-round box. Made in the USA.
