Description

The Faxon EXOS-524 is a compensator cut to match the slide of the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield and Shield Plus. Faxon designed it around its own Shield threaded barrels so the comp sits flush with the front of the slide. It threads onto a 1/2×28 barrel, gets timed by hand so the ports face up, and is held there by two 6-32 set screws; there are no shims or crush washer. A threaded barrel is required, and the factory Shield barrel is not threaded. The Faxon threaded barrels we carry for the Shield and Shield Plus are the intended match.

Faxon machines it from 6061 aluminum in Ohio and black anodizes it. The design is a single chamber with three ports angled at 45 degrees. The box includes the comp, thread locker for the barrel threads, two 6-32 set screws, and a 1/16 inch hex wrench. Faxon recommends standard pressure or +P ammunition in the 115 to 124 grain range, notes that light target loads may occasionally fail to lock the slide back on the last round, and calls a lighter recoil spring optional for shooters who run only light loads. Faxon publishes a 29 percent reduction in peak muzzle rise from its Ransom rest test with 115 grain 9mm, and is clear that the comp redirects muzzle movement rather than reducing total recoil energy. Faxon also notes you may see gas in the sight picture on bright days, and that most Shield holster makers offer a comp-cut option.

Fitment: S&W M&P Shield 1.0, Shield 2.0, and Shield Plus, 9mm. On barrels other than Faxon’s, Faxon states it works with muzzle protrusion of 0.600 inch or less. It does not fit the P365 (EXOS-525), P320 (EXOS-515), or Glock 43X and 48 (EXOS-523 or 533). It will not fit the .40 Shield.

Matching threaded barrels: Faxon Match Series Straight Fluted Threaded Barrel (S&W M&P Shield and Shield Plus, 9mm, 1/2×28, Black Nitride).

Who it’s for

Shield and Shield Plus shooters in PCSL 2-Gun, Tactical Games, or USPSA Limited Optics and Open, and anyone running a Shield as a carry gun who wants a comp that stays flush with the slide.

Who should skip it

If you do not already have a threaded Shield barrel, factor that into the cost. The Samson Pocket Comp for the Shield is the other slide-matched option in this batch, and the True Precision S Micro works on any 1/2×28 barrel if you are not set on the flush look. USPSA Production and Carry Optics and IDPA SSP and CO do not allow compensators; IDPA CCP and ESP rules vary, so check before you install.
