Strike Industries Mass Driver Compensator – Glock 19 Gen 3, 9mm, Guide Rod Mount, Black

// Quick Overview

The Strike Industries Mass Driver is a reciprocating steel compensator for the Gen 3 Glock 19 that mounts on a replacement guide rod instead of the barrel, so no threaded barrel is needed. Manganese phosphate finish, slide-width profile for open-bottom holsters. Gen 3 G19 only; a separate version covers Gen 4 and Gen 5.

Description

The Strike Industries Mass Driver Comp is a different animal from a thread-on compensator. Instead of screwing onto the muzzle, it rides on a replacement guide rod and recoil spring assembly that ships in the box, and it sits in front of the Gen 3 Glock 19 slide at slide width. When the pistol fires, the comp pushes forward as the slide moves back. Strike Industries states that this reciprocating mass, plus the gas the comp redirects, works together to counter felt recoil and muzzle rise. Because it is not attached to the barrel, it works with the factory unthreaded G19 barrel. Strike says it is also compatible with most aftermarket threaded Glock barrels. Strike recommends installation by a gunsmith and lists a 25 inch-pound torque spec for the guide rod nut.

Strike’s product copy describes it as precision CNC machined steel with a manganese phosphate finish. The bore is widened to reduce baffle strikes and keyholing, and there is a 2.5 millimeter relief cut at the top rear of the comp to reduce lipping and slide wear. The package includes the comp body, a recoil spring, guide rod, guide rod fitment washer, guide rod head, internal spring, and a warning card. Strike does not publish a recoil spring weight, but it does warn plainly that +P and +P+ 9mm ammo will wear out the internal spring early and cause failure, so plan on standard-pressure ammo.

Fitment: Gen 3 Glock 19 only (compact slide). Strike sells separate Gen 4 and Gen 5 versions and states this one is not compatible with Gen 4 or Gen 5 pistols. The full-size Gen 3 G17 uses part SI-G3-MDCOMP-S, not this one. Strike says it was designed and tested on OEM Glock and Strike Industries slides, and proper fit on other aftermarket slides and frames is not guaranteed. No threaded barrel is required.

Matching threaded barrels: Ballistic Advantage Threaded Barrel (Glock 19 Gen 3-5, 19X, 45, 9mm, 1/2×28, Black Nitride); Ballistic Advantage Threaded Barrel (Glock 19 Gen 3-5, 19X, 45, 9mm, 1/2×28, Copper PVD); Faxon Match Series Flame Fluted Threaded Barrel (Glock 19 Gen 2-5, 9mm, 1/2×28, Black Nitride); True Precision Threaded Barrel (Glock 19 Gen 1-5, 19X, 45, 9mm, 1/2×28, Stainless); Rival Arms Precision Threaded Barrel (Glock 19 Gen 3/4, 9mm, 1/2×28, Black PVD).

Who it’s for

Gen 3 G19 shooters who want a compensator without buying a threaded barrel, for USPSA Limited Optics or Open, PCSL 2-Gun, and Tactical Games. It also suits Gen 3 clone builds on OEM-pattern slides.

Who should skip it

If you run a Gen 4 or Gen 5 G19, or a G17, this version will not fit; Strike makes a matched part for each. Shooters who feed +P defensive ammo should look at a thread-on comp like the Faxon EXOS-513 with one of the threaded barrels we carry for the Glock 19, since Strike warns +P will wear out the Mass Driver’s internal spring. Installation involves a stiff spring and Strike recommends a gunsmith, so this is not a five-minute swap. USPSA Production and Carry Optics and IDPA SSP and CO do not allow compensators; IDPA CCP and ESP rules vary, so check your rulebook.
