Description

The North American Rescue C-A-T is the windlass tourniquet the U.S. Army has issued since 2005. This is the current Gen 7 in black. It stops arterial bleeding in an arm or leg by cinching a 1.5 inch strap tight and locking the windlass in a clip. The detail that matters most is the single-routing buckle. You feed the strap through once and it works the same way on a leg as it does one-handed on your own arm.

NAR builds the Gen 7 with a free-moving internal band, a reinforced windlass rod with heavy ribbing, and a beveled stabilization plate. The windlass clip locks from either side and a hook-and-loop strap holds it in place. The security strap has a writeable surface for the application time. It ships folded flat at about 6.5 by 2.4 inches, so it fits a belt holder, a range bag pocket, or a plate carrier pouch. One tourniquet per package. Holder sold separately.

Heads up: a tourniquet you have never opened is a tourniquet you cannot apply under stress. Practice with the blue NAR trainer we also carry, and keep this black one sealed and staged for real use.

Anyone who shoots. It belongs on the belt or in the bag of every competitor, RO, and Tactical Games athlete, and in the door pocket of the truck you drive to the range.

Who should skip it

If you want the tourniquet to be easy to spot on a crowded belt or in a bag, get the orange C-A-T instead. If you are buying one to practice with, get the blue trainer version, not this one.
