This is what I run. I’ve had up to three King Competition 8-round caddies across my belt at every multigun match since I first reviewed them, and the magnetic retention has proven itself every time. Shells lock in tight and release with a clean, consistent pull — of every caddy I’ve tested, the King delivers the smoothest release without sacrificing retention strength. Most caddies trade one for the other. The King does both.
Each shell unit is independently self-leveling, which means you can switch between birdshot, buckshot, and slugs without adjusting anything. The spring tension is tunable by rotating the main bolt if you want to dial it in, but the factory setting handles all standard 12-gauge 2-3/4″ competition shells out of the box.
The skeleton construction is rigid and curved on an angled axis to wrap around your waist. The 8-round version keeps the shell positions high relative to the belt mount, which I appreciate after dealing with uncomfortable edge dig from other caddies when crouching. Shells are staggered for your grip hand — make sure you order the correct variation (Right or Left) based on which hand you grab shells with.
The trade-off is price. At $115 per caddy, a full three-caddy belt setup runs $345+ before mounting hardware. It’s an investment. But if your shotgun loading is the weakest part of your match performance, this is where the money should go.

The King Competition MSHG6 is a 6th-generation 8-round shotgun shell holder that uses high-strength magnets for shell retention. Designed and manufactured by IPSC World Champions in Finland, the Gen 6 represents six generations of refinement in materials, retention strength, and shell positioning.
Shells are held within the geometry of the holder and locked by magnets. Release is a short pull that detaches the shells completely — there’s no dragging or friction-based retention to fight against. Each 4-shell unit is independently self-leveling, automatically adjusting to accommodate any standard 12-gauge 2-3/4″ competition cartridge (birdshot, buckshot, or slug) without manual tuning. Spring tension and travel can be fine-tuned by rotating the main bolt if desired, but the factory setting works across all standard competition shell types.
The skeleton construction is rigid and the backing plate is curved on an angled axis to conform to your waist. Shells are staggered for either right-handed or left-handed grip (select the correct variation when ordering) and spaced with minimum distance to each other for efficient belt use. The holder supports quad loading, dual loading, or any combination.
The Gen 6 adapter system provides a rigid 360° rotation attachment for Blade-Tech Tek-Lok or Safariland ELS systems. The caddy can also be mounted directly via included hook-and-loop strips or M6 screws through the skeleton links. Belt adapter (Tek-Lok, ELS) is not included and must be purchased separately.
IPSC Note: The skeleton construction without an adapter complies with the IPSC 75mm rule. Using a Tek-Lok or ELS adapter may exceed the 75mm distance from the belt — check your division rules before mounting with an adapter for IPSC competition.
