If you’ve ever had a shot timer die mid-match because of a cheap nine-volt battery, or struggled to read a tiny screen while RO’ing in direct sunlight, the KST1000 was built to fix those problems. Kestrel brought the same rugged construction from their weather meters into a shot timer designed with Doug Koenig, and it shows. The thing is IP67 rated, drop-tested to MIL-STD-810G, and runs on two CR123A batteries that last roughly 90 hours.
What actually sets it apart from a CED 7000 or Pocket Pro II is usability. Two separate LCD screens — one on top for reading off your belt, one on the front for reviewing splits in your hand. Five nameable presets so you can switch between USPSA, dry fire practice, and par time drills without resetting everything. It picks up dry fire hammer drops, works with suppressed shooting, and now integrates directly with PractiScore 2 via Bluetooth through a firmware update in the Kestrel LiNK app.
It costs more than most timers on the market. But if you’re RO’ing regularly, training with intention, or just tired of replacing gear that can’t survive a range bag, this is a buy-once solution.
